Enjoying the good life in Costa Rica’s Playa Flamingo

Pura Vida… Translated this means the “good life” or “simple life”. It is the Costa Rican way of living. Are you looking to get away from the busy day to day life? Do you need to find a relaxing, slow paced location for a vacation? If so, Playa Flamingo Costa Rica may be the place you are looking for. Playa Flamingo is located in between Brasilito Bay and Potrero Bay in the Guanacaste province next to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.  You can reach this location easiest by flying into Liberia International Airport.

Playa Flamingo has two seasons, dry and wet. The dry season runs from mid-November until early May. The wet season runs from mid-May to mid-November. During the dry season you can expect to see sunshine every day with next to no precipitation. During the wet season, most of the day tends to remain sunny with very strong rain happening most evenings and sometimes early mornings as well.  The weather is consistently in the 80’s and 90’s (Fahrenheit) year round. Anytime of the year is a great time to visit this area.

If you are looking for a place to visit that has beautiful beaches to visit you will love it here.  There are many beaches to pick from. If you are looking to go surfing and watch some big waves, then Tamarindo is a hot spot. You will find some beaches that are busier than others. Some beaches during the weekdays you will find you might be the only person walking the beach. A real gem of a beach in this area is Playa Conchal. This beach consists of crush-shelled sand. You can easily spend an entire day on this beach. Snorkeling and other water sports are available along with fresh fruity drinks and fresh seafood cooked to order on the beach.

Beyond the beach there are many other activities that you can do closeby. You can rent ATV’s and tour the beach and mountain area. There are many boat tours that range from sunset to dolphin watching. Scuba diving and snorkeling is also very popular in these areas.

If you are into fishing, spend the day out on a boat sport fishing. Mahi mahi, tuna, and snapper are common catches up in the northern Pacific region of Costa Rica. Spending the day way out in the ocean is also a great opportunity to spot humpback whales, pilot whales, dolphins, rays, and sea turtles.

You will find some fantastic restaurants in the area to eat at. If you like seafood, you will have the opportunity to eat some of the fresh fish they have caught in the area.  One of our favorites is Coco Loco. This restaurant is located on the beach in Playa Flamingo. It’s a great spot to watch the sunset, enjoy fruity drinks and taste some fabulous food. If you’re traveling with a family the kids can play in the sand and swim after or before dinner.

The people in Playa Flamingo are very friendly with many speaking English which can make the travel experience much easier. This is a destination that you won’t regret and that you will want to keep coming back to time and again. As they say, Pura Vida.

Launch Announcement – Where In The World .io is live!

We are very excited to announce the launch of Where In The World .io!

What is this site all about?

The Map App

The heart of Where In The World is our free map app, where you can create your own personal travel map and share it with friends.  Use your map to show where you’ve been, where you’re going, and where you are now.

Profile

You get a personalized profile page, where you can upload your image, complete your personal details, and share with friends (that is, if you haven’t set your profile to “private”).  Your profile also shows off any badges you’ve earned.

Badges

Earn badges by visiting unique and interesting places — for example, anyone who’s been to Antarctica earns the Antarctica badge (because that’s just freakin’ cool!).  Earn more badges based on combinations of countries visited, and other factors.  The nationality you choose on your profile may also unlock badge opportunities based on your citizenship.

Where In The World? Blog

Last but not least, this blog will be a resource of information, articles, and interesting ideas for world travelers and adventure seekers.  Be sure to check back in the coming weeks as we publish our first articles… and put the finishing touches on a cool design that will be rolled out soon.

Who’s behind this site?

This site was created by passionate world-traveling nerds, with a particular love of adventure and… well, mapping said adventures.  This project is definitely a labor of love.   We offer it to you — for free — in the hopes that you will have has much fun with it as we are. Who knows, maybe it will even motivate some fun competition between friends to visit new places?

Roadmap for the future…

What you see now is just the beginning… here’s a short list of ideas we’re working on developing in the near future.

  • More opportunities to be “social” — compare your map with friends’ maps, rankings, activity feeds, and more
  • More maps!  Our big geo-political world map will always remain… but what if you want to show your progress visiting the Departments of France? Or the republics, krais, oblasts, and okrugs of Russia?  UNESCO World Heritage sites?  What if you’re a really hardcore traveler going for all the countries and territories noted by the Travelers Century Club?
  • Lots more badges!
  • A much cooler blog design, plus great articles, information, and ideas from both our staff and guest blog authors

The sky is the limit… but our goal is simple.  To be the most fun and social way to map your travels, while being a source of inspiration for the adventurer in all of us.

See you out there!
